Having a job is certainly a blessing, but sometimes work can be stressful. At times, even the most enjoyable job can become difficult, whether the stress is from the work itself or from the people that you work with.

Any time we face a stressful situation in life, we can take it to God in prayer, knowing that He cares for us!

God is our Refuge!

The Bible tells us that God is our refuge:

  • Psalm 46: 1“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
  • Proverbs 18: 10“The name of the LORD is s strong tower; the righteous runs into it and is safe.”

No matter what we face, God is always there to carry our burdens for us if we place our trust in Him.

Work Environment Can Drag Us Down

I once experienced incredible stress at a past job where I worked with ungodly coworkers who were always talking about bad things and using bad language. I felt that God had blessed me with the job and even though I was in a bad work environment, I was thankful to be employed. I prayed and asked God to help me deal with the stress until it was time to move on.

Even though I enjoyed the work, I often noticed that when I got home from work, I felt totally drained and exhausted, not from the work itself, but from the bad work environment.

Through my prayers, God helped me to have the strength to do my best work until shortly afterward when God opened the door for me to work an even better job with good Christian people.

Many people have this same type of experience, working with negative and hurtful people. It can be so difficult to work in an environment like that.

Finding Encouragement in The Bible

Amid the bad work environment, I found encouragement from the Word of God.

A close friend pointed me to these Scriptures:

  • Ecclesiastes 9: 10“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might…”
  • Colossians 3: 23-25Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve. 25 For he who does wrong will receive the consequences of the wrong which he has done, and that without partiality.”

Whatever we do, remember to do it as unto the Lord and not for men. Although we may work for men, our ultimate Master is the Lord God.

Find comfort in knowing that God is pleased when we do our best. Those who do wrong will one day pay the price for their deeds.

Take it to The Lord in Prayer

Prayer is a powerful weapon to overcome any obstacle we encounter. God is a good, good, father to us and He wants us to come to Him with all of our fears, needs, and problems. God wants us to trust in His mighty hand.

Many people might not fully understand the peace found in prayer, but, as believers, we know the comfort we feel when when we lift our burdens up to the Master. The comfort we find at the foot of the cross can scarcely be put into words. Thank God for prayer!

  • Philippians 4: 6“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Pray to God From Your Heart

It can be easy to read after a prayer, but if we don’t really mean it in our hearts, then it doesn’t mean much to God! When we pray, we must not pray with meaningless repetition, but we must pray to God in our own hearts.

  • Matthew 6: 7“And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words.”

When we come with genuine hearts before the Lord in prayer, God inclines His ear to us and listens to our needs. God is willing and ready to help us in our times of need and this is certainly true of our stress at work.

Prayers for Stress at Work

Lord God, You know my heart even better than I do…You know the stress that I am facing right now at work.

Please help me Lord, give me strength to do my best despite the challenges I am facing.

Lord, I pray about my job, asking You to intervene. Help my coworkers to realize the effects of their words and actions.

God, I surrender this to You and trust in your plan.

In the precious name of Jesus, Amen!

Lord, I come to You today to ask You to shelter me in Your loving arms.

I am under so much stress right now from my job and sometimes it seems more than I can bear.

I know that You have blessed me so much and I am thankful from the bottom of my heart, but right now I need You to take this heavy load.

Lord, I know that You are always with me wherever I go and I pray that You will go before me every day at work.

Let me walk in Your joy and peace and let me be a shining light for You!

I pray all of these things in the name of Jesus, AMEN!

Lord, I pray for my coworkers. Although it’s hard to work around them, I know that they just need You in their hearts.

Help me to be a light to them and give me strength so they don’t drag me down.

Lord, I pray for their souls, that they might experience the same blessed salvation that I have.

Heavenly Father, help me to be strong and bring Your peace into my heart when I am feeling stressed.

Thank You in advance Lord for Your peace and refuge!

In the blessed name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

God, thank You for the Scriptures that remind me that You care for me.

Thank You for Philippians 4 verse 6. Lord, You said if I bring my burdens to You, You will give me a peace that passes all understanding.

I am so stressed with my job lately and I need to have Your peace to make it through this storm.

Thank You for always being there Lord.

In Jesus Name, Amen

Lord, I come to you today to pray about my job.

God, I know you blessed me with this job, but now it seems to be so stressful to stay here.

You brought me here for a reason, so I will stay if You say stay, but Lord, if You have something better for me, please let the door open soon.

Thank you for your goodness to me and thank you for your strength!

In the Mighty Name of Jesus, Amen.

Heavenly Father, you are so good and You are worthy of all the glory, all the honor, and all the praise!

I thank you for your goodness, Your mercy, and Your grace. I praise you in this storm.

Lord give me the strength for today to endure the stress of my work.

I am thankful for my work and I know that it is a blessing to be employed…Thank You Lord.

Lord forgive me if I ever seem ungrateful and help me to forgive others just as you have forgiven me!

Have your way in my life and may your Kingdom come in my life as it is in heaven.

Yours is the Kingdom and the Power and the Glory forever and ever.

I pray all of these things in the mighty name of Jesus, AMEN!
