Starting a new job can be nerve-wracking or scary to think about. We don’t always know how things will go and we have lots of new things to learn in a short time. It can be intimidating at first being thrust into a new environment with all new people to work with and, of course, you want to make a good impression on everyone, especially your new bosses.
Thankfully, as believers in Jesus, we can count on God to be with us throughout all our new chapters of life!
Our Secret Weapon
As Christians, we all have a secret weapon to combat against fear or nervousness:
When we pray to Almighty God in the mighty name of Jesus, God hears us and takes action on our behalf, strengthening us with His Holy Spirit and uplifting us with His peace.
- Colossians 4: 2 – “Devote yourselves to prayer, with an alert mind and a thankful heart.”
- 1 Thessalonians 5: 16-18 – “Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
- 1 John 5: 14 – “This is the confidence we have before Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.”
We Work for God
Although we work for our bosses here on the earth, we also work for the Lord!
Our actions speak louder than our words and one of the best examples we can set for those around us is to be diligent and hardworking. Taking pride in our work and giving our best efforts are some of the hallmarks of genuine followers of Christ.
- Galatians 6: 4-5 – “Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else. 5 For we are each responsible for our own conduct.”
- Colossians 3: 23 – “Whatever you do, do your work with all of your heart, as working for the Lord rather than men.”
- Proverbs 16: 3 – “Commit your works to the LORD and your plans will be established.”
Ultimately, whatever work we do, we are doing it for the Lord.
So, one of the best things any of us can do when starting a new job is to do our best and work hard.
