Life can be painful. Whether we face the pain of a broken relationship, the pain of losing a loved one, the pain of hurtful words, or the physical pain of illness or injury, God stands willing and ready to help us bear our burdens and take away all our pain.
No matter what pain we face in our lives, we can take it to the Lord in prayer, knowing and trusting that He is able, more than able, to help us in our times of need.
God Knows Our Pain!
God loves His children more than we could ever imagine. God knows the burdens we bear and He feels our pain.
- Psalm 56: 8 – “You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.”
The Bible tells us that God knows our pain!
He sees all of our sorrows and misery and even sees each and every one of the tears we have cried in our pain. He knows just what we are going through and He does not forget us in our troubles.
- Psalm 34: 17-18 – “The righteous cry, and the LORD hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. 18 The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
When Christians cry to the Lord, their cries are heard. God is closely aquatinted with all of our pain and is mighty to deliver sweet relief to us in our darkest moments.
Hope and Peace in The Lord
- John 16: 33 – “I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.“
Jesus Himself said we will have troubles in this world. However, as Christians and believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we can have great encouragement, knowing that Christ has already overcome the world.
- Hebrews 13: 5-6 – “…He Himself has said, ‘I WILL NEVER LEAVE YOU NOR WILL I EVER FORSAKE YOU.’ 6 so that we may confidently say, ‘THE LORD IS MY HELPER, I WILL NOT BE AFRAID. WHAT WILL MAN DO TO ME?’”
- Matthew 28: 18 & 20 – “All authority has been given to ME in heaven and on earth. 20…and lo, I am with you always even to the end of the age.”
- 2 Corinthians 1: 3-4 – “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 Who comforts us in all our afflictions so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”
Whatever sorrow or pain we face, Jesus is with us and will bring comfort to us in our time of need.
The Apostle Paul said in the book of Romans eight verse eighteen that our struggles in this life aren’t even worthy to be compared to the glory which we will see one day.
- Romans 8: 18 – “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us.”
Paul knew that, as believers in Christ, our struggles and pain on this earth are only temporary and the glory we shall see when we are united with the Lord will overshadow them, by far.
When Your Pain is More Than You Can Bear:
Sometimes, our pain seems too much to bear. It can seem as if nothing we do will ever make it any better.
In these moments, it is more important than ever to place our trust in the Lord.
- Philippians 4: 6-7 – “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.“
Whatever your need, whatever your pain, bring your request to the Lord and have faith that He hears you!
- James 5: 14-15 – “Is anyone among you sick? Then he must call for the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord Jesus; 15 and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him.”
Even if our pain is physical, God is a healer! The Bible tells us that the prayer prayed in faith will heal the sick. This is a promise from the Word of God that is often forgotten or underestimated, but if we believe that God is who He says He is and that He will do what He says He will do, then we can hold steadfast to the promises of God, knowing that He will be faithful to complete it.
Prayers for Pain Relief
Prayer for The Pain of Losing a Loved One
Heavenly Father, so merciful and mighty in all of Your ways, hear my cry today.
Lord, I know your word says You are near to the brokenhearted and You save those who are crushed in spirit…
Oh Lord, please be near to me during my time of great loss…My heart is broken and hurting and I need your strength to see me through this dark time.
“Come Holy Spirit, fall on me now. I need Your anointing, fall on me in Your power.”
Please wrap me in Your loving arms that I might feel Your loving embrace, strengthening me to overcome the sorrow that so greatly surrounds my heart.
I pray these things in the loving name of Jesus Christ, AMEN!
Prayer to Relieve Pain of Hurtful Words
Lord Jesus, my heart is so heavy right now from the hurtful things being spoken about me.
I cannot believe that those I considered friends and even family would ever say such terrible things to me.
Lord, my heart is broken and in need of repair.
Although their words have ripped through my heart like a razor-tipped arrow, leaving me with pain I could not imagine, I hold nothing against them in my heart…I forgive them because You, Oh Jesus, forgave me when I hurt You.
Lord, forgive them, for they know not what they say…
Lord, I need your comfort and healing to relieve my painfully wounded heart.
Heavenly Father, hear my prayer today and bring relief for my pain today in the powerful, yet gracious, name of the Lord Jesus Christ, AMEN!
Prayer for The Pain of a Broken Relationship
Lord, You are good and Your mercies endure forever, Your peace endures to all of the ages.
I come to You today because the pain I feel seems unbearable.
My heart is grieved by this broken relationship. Lord, You know my heart and You know how much this relationship meant to me.
My heart is so heavy and at times my tears flow like a stream, but I know you see my tears and hear my cries.
Lord, I pray for Your comfort for the pain I feel in my heart right now, and, ultimately, I pray for reconciliation if it be Your will.

Prayer to Relieve the Pain of Sickness
Dear Heavenly Father, I know that You are my healer and I know that Your Word is true!
I know that Your Word says that a prayer prayed in faith will heal the sick.
Lord, I am holding to that promise today and praying for healing in my body to relieve this pain.
I believe with all of my heart that You are more than able to heal me with Your healing touch.
In the words of Jeremiah 17: 14, “Heal me, O LORD, and I will be healed; Save me and I will be saved, for you are my praise.”
Please, Lord, heal my body and restore me in the mighty and powerful name of JESUS!
Prayer for Somone Else’s Pain: Loss of Loved One
Lord Jesus, You are so gracious and powerful and Your goodness flows down from above like a stream of water, refreshing all who come for a drink from its crystal clear waters.
Lord, I beseech you today on behalf of my friend who just lost his loved one.
God, I pray for peace and comfort during this time of mourning.
Your Word says that You are close to the brokenhearted…I pray that You will draw close to my friend and their family, right now, in the name of Jesus.
Lord, reach down from heaven and take them in your loving arms. Let them feel your presence!
I pray that they will look to You during this time and draw closer to You now than ever before.
Lord, relieve the pain of their aching hearts in the mighty name of Jesus, AMEN!
Prayer for Someone Else’s Pain: Sickness
Lord, I come before you today to lift up my friend to You today.
You knew them before You knit them together in their mother’s womb and You love them more than I ever could, but it is my love for them that brings me to prayer.
Lord, I know that you are the Great Physician, you are Jehovah Rapha, Our Healer.
I pray right now for healing in the body of my friend. Lord, even the seas and storms are subject to You, so, I know that You can heal my friend.
Today, I pray the prayer of faith and ask you to heal my friend and relieve their pain once and for all.
Your Word, Oh Heavenly Father, says that we were healed by Your stripes and bruised for our iniquities…Lord, you didn’t just pay the price for our sins on the cross, but you paid for our healing too.
Lord, heal my friend and relieve their pain right now in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, AMEN!
Prayer to Relieve Financial Pain
Precious Lord, Your mercies never cease to amaze me!
I thank you for being with me through every storm I have faced in my life and I thank you for never leaving me or forsaking me.
Lord, I have faith that You will bring me through this season of financial pain and hardship!
I cling to the Word of God today that says, “My God shall supply all of my needs according to His riches in glory.”
Lord, I know that You see the stress, and pain that my financial hardship has brought.
I know that You own all the cattle on a thousand hills and there is nothing too difficult for You
I am clinging to my faith that You will make a way even when there seems to be no way and I pray for a financial breakthrough in my finances!
