As men, we often try to face our struggles alone, resolving to keep our emotions bottled up inside, but the more we do this, the harder it becomes. You see, we were never created to live our lives alone, separated from the rest of the world; no man is an island.

We have a high calling in God: to be spiritual leaders to our families, Godly husbands to our wives and examples of Christ to our children and the world around us; this is why the devil is dead set on destroying us and keeping us from fulfilling God’s call on our lives. The Bible tells us that “as iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another”.

If you looking for great ideas for your next Men’s Ministry meeting, you’ve come the the right place!

  • Father and Son Events

Fathers play a more important role in the lives of their children than perhaps they could ever truly realize. Fathers have the power to shape their children through Godly, righteous instruction. However, ungodly fathers can lead their children down a long path of saddness and emotional turmoil.

Scheduling a night specifically for fathers and their sons is a great way to foster spiritual growth within the family unit and to strengthen the sacred bond between father and son. The relationship between a father and son has the potential to be the most meaningful and lasting relationship of any man’s life.

Therefore, it is vitally important that we, as men and fathers strive to know Christ and to make Him known to our children, always seeking to to love, cherish, and teach our sons and daughters the importance of the things of God.

Ideas for Father and Son Events

  • Men’s Breakfast

Have you ever heard the old adage, “Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.”? I am not sure about the wealthy part, but the Bible does say, “Do not love sleep, or you will become poor…” (Proverbs 20: 13) Whatever the case, it is good for a man to wake up in the morning and give thanks to God first thing!

Hosting a Men’s Breakfast is a great way to bond with your brothers in the Men’s Ministry and devote time to God early in the morning and having a Men’s Breakfast regularly helps to strengthen relationships and fill bellies. After all, they say that the way to a man’s heart is his stomach!

The best Men’s Breakfasts involve early morning coffee and Bible study as well as testimonials.

        • Even though we are men, we still have a younger side to us, right?!
  • Accountability Partners

As men, we have our own struggles in life that only other men can truly understand. It can make a world of difference in your life to have an accountability partner or partners.

Your acountability partner(s) are men that you know you can trust to open up to about anything you might be facing in your life. Accountability partners are men that you can trust to tell you the truth no matter what, always point you to God’s Word, and encourage you during your darkest moments.

Choose one or two men that you trust, and agree to meet with them regularly to discuss the struggles that you all are facing and to go to the Word of God for guidance. Sometimes having another person in our corner when we are facing temptations or trials can make all of the difference. Our natural tendency as men is to hide our feelings and struggles, but having Accountability Partners can help to break that cycle and help us to overcome things that we would, otherwise, be powerless to overcome on our own.

  • Mentorship

This one is more of a longterm goal than a one time event for the Men’s Ministry. This idea works especially well when you have an age-diverse Men’s Ministry group. It is so important for the younger men to learn from the wisdom that the older generation of men have gained in their years of working and serving the Lord.

One of the leading problems in our society today is a lack of Godly men and present fathers. This issue is growing by leaps and bounds and we, as Christian men, need to take a stand, purposing in our hearts to shine the light of Christ for this younger generation.

The Bible says that the older men are to set a Godly example for the younger men:

Titus 2: 1-2“But as for you, speak the things which are fitting for sound doctrine. 2 Older men are to be temperate, dignified, sensible, sound in faith, in love, in perseverance.”

Ephesians 6: 4“Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.”

Have older men in your group each partner with one or more of the younger men and meet regularly for mentorship and discipleship. The older men have much to offer to the younger generation and this is one great way for them to pass down their knowledge and wisdom.

Although the older generation certainly have a lot to bring to the table, never underestimate the unique perspectives the younger generation presents; both young men and old men alike will be strengthened and encouraged by one another.

Mentorship can particularly be a blessing to the young men in the church who may not have a father that they can depend on. It gives the fatherless men the chance to form a meaningful relationship with someone that they can look up to as a spiritual father, giving them a listening ear when they face the challenges of life and someone to turn to for advice and Godly council.

  • Men’s Maintenance Team

If your church doesn’t already have a janitor or care taker that looks over the church, this could be a great opportunity for the men of the church to use the skills that God has blessed them with to serve the church and to further God’s work.

Suggested Tasks:

  1. mowing the lawn
  2. maintaining the planters and gardens
  3. reparing the plumbing issues(if any)
  4. repaint the church
  5. Change the oil in the church van
  • Kid’s Day

One unique idea for your Men’s Ministry is to set one day every other month for the men to take over the duties of the nursery or children’s church. This is a great way to give some of the women a break every once in a while and also a great way for the children to learn from the men of the church.

An a alternate version of this idea is to plan a day for activities with the fathers and grandfathers in the church to get together with the children for a day of fun and fellowship.

A few ideas for Kid’s Day:

  1. Have the men serve in the nursery periodically
  2. Have the men teach children’s Sunday School
  3. Plan an event for fathers, grandfathers, and children of the church
    • play a game of basket ball
    • have a watergun fight followed by snacks and drinks
    • have a Christian movie night
  4. Have the men teach the youth group
  • Praise and Worship Night

A praise and worship night is one great way to bring the men of the church together to bond and also to worship and magnify the Lord. The bible says to make a joyful noice unto the Lord! When we begin to worship the Lord in praise, God’s Spirit moves in and lives are changed.

As men, we are called to set an example for those around us and that includes in our worship.

Praise and Worship night is a wonderful time to invite the presence of God into our midst and to thank God for all that He has done in our lives. It is a time for us to let go of all of the heavy burdens that we bear as men and lay them down at the feet of Jesus.

Don’t be afraid to sing out. We can raise our voices at the football or basketball game, but sometimes we find it hard to lift our voices in praise! We don’t sing for those around us, but we sing for the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, the Alpha and the Omega, the Prince of Peace, the Everlasting Father! He is worthy of all of the glory, and all of the honor, and all of the praise!

  • Testimony Night

Revelation 12: 11 “…they overcame him [the devil] by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony…”

This too can be one of the most meaningful and powerful meetings with your Men’s Ministry. Our personal testimonies are one of the most powerful tools we have to share the gospel, but it is also a powerful tool to encourage others who may have been through or are still going through the same thing.

As men, we are often tempted to think that we are completely alone in the trials and struggles that we face, perhaps wondering, “How could anyone else possibly know and understand what I am going through.” By sharing our testimonies with the group, we often discover that some of the other men have been through the same situations that we are facing and come out the other side by the grace of God.

2 Corinthians 1: 4“…[God] comforts us in all of our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”

Sometimes, it is easy for us to wonder, “Why is God letting this happen to me.”, but what we may not realize at the time is that God may be preparing us so that we can be a blessing to someone else in the future who is facing the same things. Testimony night is a time to glorify God by sharing what God has done in our lives and the trials that He has brought us through.

Next time you meet for Men’s Ministry, consider sharing your testimonies; you will be glad you did.

God Bless You

I pray that you all have been blessed and inspired by these ideas for your Men’s Ministry group. It is my prayer that God would move in your midst as you gather together with the men of the church to grow in your walks with the Lord and deepen your knowledge of His Holy Word.

May you all be strengthened and blessed, may the Peace of God rule in your hearts and minds, and may the Joy of the Lord be your strength through all of the storms you face, in JESUS’ NAME, AMEN!
