What it Means to Be Covered by the Blood of Jesus

I am so thankful that I am Covered by the Blood, and I want you to know that you can be too!

If you didn’t grow up in church, you might have never heard this phrase before, but let me assure you, being Covered by the Blood of Jesus is the most important thing that can ever happen to you!

What this means in the simplest terms is that all your sins have been forgiven. Let’s take a look at the Word of God to truly understand what it means to be Covered by the Blood of Jesus.

All Have Sinned

In the beginning, God created us to live forever in perfect harmony with Him and to walk in obedience to His Laws. Adam and Eve were created without sin but also with free will to make their own choices.

They were free to love God and obey His commandments or to choose their own way. It was God’s Will that they live safely and peacefully in the world He had created for them, but Adam and Eve chose to disobey God.

“Therefore just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned-“

Romans 5: 12

This act of disobedience separated man from God and opened the door for sin and death to take root in the world for the first time.

Man’s greatest need is to be redeemed of sin and once again enter into a close relationship with God.

If we die in the midst of our sins without accepting Christ into our hearts, we will die and go to the fiery pits of hell.

The central message of the Bible is one of redemption of sins through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. In Short, that is the Gospel message, that our sins can be forgiven and that we might have eternal life.

Atonement for Sin

Since the time of Adam and Eve, man has needed to make atonement for their sins. Before Christ was sent into the world, men had to make blood sacrifices unto God for this purpose.

“And according to the law, almost all things are cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.”

Hebrews 9: 22

Under the old laws, men needed to bring a pure animal for the blood sacrifice, usually a young sheep, bull, or goat. The animals had to be without spots or blemishes in order to be used for the atonement of the sins of the people.

They could not use just any lamb for the offering; they needed to find a spotless lamb. Only the blood of the spotless lamb would cleanse their sins.

Although the animals’ blood would pay the atonement for sins for a time, these offerings were still not perfect, no matter how beautiful and pure the lamb seemed to be.

Jesus Christ, Lamb of God

God gave laws to govern the people and allowed blood offerings to be made for sin, but the blood of animals would never truly be sufficient to pardon the sins of man forever.

Our sins were so great, and the chasm between us and God was too wide.

God loved His people, and before the foundations of the world, He had a plan to redeem mankind for all of eternity.

That plan was and is Jesus Christ! Hallelujah! Praise be to God!

“The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, ‘Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world!'” John 1:29

The Spotless Lamb

There was no perfect sacrifice for sin, so God sent his Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.

“16 For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 3: 16

The Bible tells us that Jesus was born of a little virgin woman named Mary who was engaged to a carpenter named Joseph.

The Holy Spirit visited Mary and told her she would bear a child and that His name would be called Jesus. The Bible tells us, “the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.

“She will Bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins” Matthew 1: 21

As Jesus was conceived of God and not of man, He was born without sin and perfect in every way. Jesus lived a sinless life and He gave himself up willingly to be crucified on a cross to pay the price for our sins once and for all.

“10 By this will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. 12 …having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time…”

Hebrews 10: 10&12
A Life Lived and Given For Us

Jesus lived the life that we could never live. He lived a life without sin to set the example for us to follow.

The Bible tells us that He was tempted in all points that man is tempted, and yet He sinned not.

“For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.”

Hebrews 4: 15

While He was in the form of a man on this earth, The Lord Jesus knew and experienced the same things that you and I face every day. He felt great happiness, and yet he also faced great pain and sorrows.

He was kind and loving, healing people of their sickness, delivering them from the chains of their sins, and forgiving them of their sins, but the people despised Him and rejected Him. The Bible calls Him a man of many sorrows.

“He was despised and forsaken of men, A man of many sorrows and acquainted with grief; And like one from whom men hide their face He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. Surely our griefs He Himself bore, and our sorrows He carried…” Isaiah 53: 3&4

The sacrifices of the Old Testament were imperfect offerings, but Jesus Christ was truly the Spotless Lamb of God without blemish.

Jesus Died For Us

Remember, the bible says that without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness for sins. The sacrifices of old were imperfect. Jesus was perfect.

Jesus lived His life without sin so that He could one day become the perfect sacrifice for our sins.

When those who despised Jesus sought to put him to death, He, the only one who was ever truly innocent, offered up His life for all mankind.

He freely shed His blood for you and I when He was crucified on the cross.

HIS blood paid the price!

Covered by The Blood of Jesus

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
